The fact in which we want to emphasize is that of his death, surrounded by some mysteries still unsolved.
We are therefore on that fateful April 28, 1796, the day of the armistice of Cherasco. Cardinal – the legend – was preparing to flee Balbiano to Switzerland to escape the hated French revolutionaries. Unfortunately, however, he wanted to fill exaggerated clothes with all his gold, but that enormous weight caused him a hernia that killed him instantly.
The treasure of Durini, it would be immediately buried in the villa, it was for decades sought by the new owners and the inhabitants of the place, but still has not been found. But the mysteries do not end there: the cardinal was buried in the beautiful Romanesque church of Sant’Abbondio in Como, but a century later when you wanted to exhume the body was found that a wig.
I’ve wanted to be buried with his gold?
