Villa d’Este è anche famosa per i numerosi furti milionari che sono avvenuti sia al suo interno che nelle ville annesse all’albergo. Qui ripropongo l’ultimo furto milionario (ancora in lire) avvenuto nel 1998, di argenteria e oggetti di antiquariato del Settecento e dell’Ottocento. I ladri appunto saccheggiarono la villa in cui viveva il direttore dell’albergo con un colpo spettacolare: i ladri arrivarono e scapparono dal lago su di un gommone.
