The basic construction began at the end of the eighteenth century by Marchesa Menafoglio Ghilini, but it remained incomplete. The property passed to Marchesi Cornaggia Medici, who commissioned to the architect Tazzini the demolition of the building (around 1850) and the new construction of a villa with the late-neoclassical lines. The building was rebuilt and the interior was decorated with paintings by E. Pagliano and G. Bertini. Cornaggia’s also realized the large surrounding park. It was also made the tree-lined Viale Geno, which soon became a public walkway for Como’s residents and turists.
In the early twentieth century, the property was acquired by the Municipality of Como, which downsized the park, even for the supervening construction of many villas.
