Villa di Delizia presenta caratteristiche architettoniche molto tipiche delle costruzioni dell’epoca risorgimentale. L’elemento decorativo che lo caratterizza è l’inserimento di spunti ornamentali di medaglioni con terrecotte popolari che riprendono i modelli delle maschere del teatro del Settecento. I quattro angoli dell’edificio sono evidenziati ciascuno da una coppia di mezzibusti di figure grottesche, mentre le quattro facciate vedono un alternarsi di tondi con spunti floreali. Elementi decorativi simili a questi erano molto comuni negli edifici, anche di proporzioni maggiori, e venivano soprattutto usati per decorare le facciate d’onore e le corti interne. Questi interventi, che recuperano l’antico cotto in Lombardia, si ispiravano soprattutto all’architettura gotica e rinascimentale lombarda, ripresa dai vari architetti in chiave moderna.
Villa di Delizia has architectural features very typical of Risorgimento’s buildings. The decorative element that characterizes it is the inclusion of points of medallions with ornamental faience popular that reflect the patterns of the masks of the theater of the eighteenth century. The four corners of the building are highlighted each of a pair of talking heads of grotesque figures, while the four-sided see an alternation of rounds with floral cues. Decorative elements like these were common in buildings, also of major proportions, and were mainly used to decorate the facades of honor and the domestic courts. These interventions, which recover the ancient faience in Lombardy, were based mainly Lombard Renaissance and Gothic architecture, picked up by various architects in a modern way.
